Hey travellers!
I just finished the last article from my longest journey so far. After being gone for almost two months, I was lucky to have a twelve-hour layover in Singapore on the way back home.
Surely you all know Singapore thanks to their often ridiculous laws. For example, it’s illegal to chew chewing gum, so they don’t even sell it in a store. You also get a huge fine for not flushing public toilets after using it, as well as connecting to someone else’s wifi, feeding pigeons, walking naked at home or annoying someone by playing a musical instrument.
This all results, however, in an incredibly clean and orderly city without chewing gum and pigeon excrement on the sidewalk.
Anyway, the plan for one day was pretty clear – Gardens by the Bay. It takes a few hours to explore them, so I didn’t even plan anything else for those twelve hours.
So what exactly are Gardens by the Bay? A unique botanical garden overlaping into education about global warming and nature in general.
Even though the entrance fee is quite expensive, this rarity is definitely worth a visit. You can walk through three huge greenhouses with a variety of plants, watch a document about global warming, play a bit in the interactive sections, stroll through the gardens and along the sea, or walk around the high futuristic footbridges.
I heard there was a light show after it gets dark, but I didn’t see it since I had to head back to the airport in the evening.
What is also worth mentioning is Changi Airport. Right in the main hall you will find a unique hypnotizing waterfall. I almost missed my plane because I couldn’t stop looking at it.
If you ever fly though Singapore, make sure you have a long layover here, it’s a really nice stop when flying to Australia or the Pacific 🙂
