Hey travellers!
I have to synchronize my Instagram and blog posts a bit, so here is another post, this time from Austria/Germany, where I set off the day I came back from Israel/Jordan to cool down a bit. The weather in Israel almost killed me, haha:)
Me and my mom decided to visit the area we wanted to see long before, and somehow we never had an opportunity. We went to Hallstatt, which I have already seen with Vojta a long ago, but my mom had never seen it before, so I was a guide this time.
If you are planning a trip to Hallstatt, then believe that you will be done walking through the town in half an hour. That’s how small it is. Except those fantastic restaurants right next to the lake, there is not much to do, and most people come here for just for that one photo. Therefore, it’s a good idea to combine a trip to Hallstatt with another two fantastic lakes nearby – Königsee and Obersee. And that’s exactly what we did.
After two hours, we drove to Schönau am Königsee, where we had booked a hotel. We wanted to take the first boat in the morning at Königsee to get to Obersee first because we knew that this fanstatic place would quickly fill up with people during the day.
But even though we jumped on the first boat in the morning, we were not able to get to Obersee first, because we couldn’t resist getting off at a middle-stop – at the St. Bartholomew church. This stop is definitely worth visiting, but I think it’s better if you enjoy it on your way back and go to Obersee first, which is definitely better without people.
We then jumped on the next boat and headed for Obersee. I still have butterflies in my stomach, that’s how beautiful it was. I haven’t seen something so beautiful for a really long time. To reach Obersee, you have to walk about 15 minutes from the “port”. The path is super easy and just as beautiful as the lake itself.
When you arrive at Obersee, the first thing you will see is a small wooden cabin directly on the water. You immediately wanna move there and declare it as your summer house. When you’re facing this cabin, I definitely recommend going right. There is a path which leads around the whole lake all the way to the other side where there is a similar cabin. It takes about 45 minutes to get to the other side and it’s also a super-easy walk.
Well, and when you’re on the other side of the lake, head up the meadows. You will see the lake from above, which is also an incredible view. At the end of this path there is a waterfall, which is also worth seeing. The waterfall is about 45 minutes of walking from the lake.
We were lucky enough to still have some flowers right in front of the waterfall, so it was a real treat for the eyes.
Then we went back to the dock and, given that we still had a little time left, we went back St. Bartholomew’s church and headed for Eiskapelle, which is a fantastic ice cave.
But unfortunately we didn’t know that in order to get into it, you need crampons or ski-touring skis. It is located in a really steep slope, which is covered with frozen snow. So it’s not reachable in regular trekking boots. So we just got to the viewpoint, but we couldn’t go any further, which was too bad, but at least it’s an advice for those who want to go there.
And one more advice – never take the last boat back, everyone says that it’s usually full and it often happens that if someone doesn’t fit in there, they have to pay a huge amount of money to get a special boat to get them back.
And what about you guys? Have you ever been to this area? Or at least are you planning on it? :)))
