Unfortunately I don’t have any photos from Saturday’s Grand Prix Adidas Run for Women, because my beloved photographer wasn’t there, but I’d love to share my experiences & feelings with you guys at least via today’s #MotivationMonday. You could actually see some pics on my Instagram Stories on Saturday.
As I wrote in the previous fitness article, I’m more of a sprinter than a marathon runner. However, I took this 5km race as a challenge. No, I did not train for it and the last time I ran 5 km was about 3 years ago. I just wanted to see if I can do it even without training.
At 6pm we started the race at Namesti Republiky and the first two hundred meters I felt absolutely great. After the first kilometer I started to run out of energy, but I was still overtaking most of the girls. Somewhere on the third kilometer I dropped my headphones and I lost the rubber part of my earbuds and since I can’t run without my music, I lost my pace a bit. At the last 800 meters, I was so excited by the screaming and cheering people, that I forgot to breathe regularly and I started to feel a huge pain in my ribs. I thought I would have to stop for a second. But how could I stop 800 meters before the finish line and in front of all those people? No way. I closed my eyes and kept running. I swear to God I’ve never felt more pain.
I saw my time about 100 meter before the finish line. Before the race I promised myself that I would make it in 23 minutes. Last year I finished it in 26 minutes. The board said 23:51 by that time and there were still those 100 meters. At that moment I couldn’t think of anything better than simply doing what I can do the best. Sprint. Despite the pain, I closed my eyes and started sprinting like Bolt. The crowd began to cheer and scream even more. Even though I knew I started running later and this time didn’t correspond to my actual time, I had to finish under 24 minutes. I finished the race with the official time 24:01 (yeah, that one second really sucks!!), but my real time was a little bit over 23 minutes.
I ended up on the 44. place from total of 1,600 women and I ran my personal best.
I stopped right after the finish line and all I could see was black. I lost my sight for about 15 seconds and I was counting the seconds till passing out. I imagined, how the rescuers would resuscitate in front of those crowds. Fortunately that did not happen, but the pain was still unbearable. I started walking forward and after a few minutes, and a half of a banana I felt a bit better.
I’ve got to confess, that I spent Friday night partying till 6 am with my friends, who celebrated the state exams. I slept two hours and on Saturday, I was so sick, that I didn’t eat anything at all, haha:):D So, no wonder I was feeling like this after the race. Considering this fact, I’m extremely happy, with my time, however, I can’t wait to get back to my sprints and squats :))))
