Hiking Seceda in the Dolomites

Hey guyssss!

it feels like one day since I came back from the Dolomites, but it’s been over a week already! This time, I will overload you with the hike up to one of the most impressive mountains in the entire Dolomites, called Seceda (2519 m.a.s.l.). There is a cable car going to the top, but it was shut down the day before I got there, so there were no people at all!

Of course it wouldn’t be me, if I just went there the easiest way. Because I didn’t have a map of this area, I went to buy some. I parked at the station of the Ortisei-Seceda cable car and walked to a small shop right next to it. I talked to this guy, who asked me where I was going. When I said that I wanted to go to Seceda, he recommended me a longer but more beautiful way.

It led from Ortisei around the St. Jakob church and then across the summit of Mount Pic (2365 m.a.s.l.), which is said to have one of the most beautiful views of the entire Dolomites. I had a lot of time, so I said why not.

Just the hike to Pic took me about three hours, gaining the altitude of over 1,000 meters. When I finally scrambled to Pic, I couldn’t believe my eyes. That guy was right! It really was one of the most beautiful views I’ve ever seen. It was so beautiful that I couldn’t even take a picture of it. This happens to me sometimes, I mean when there’s something too beautiful, I just don’t know how to capture it on the camera, but I’m pretty sure this was one of those places I’ll remember without having it captured.

After less than an hour of watching the nature, I started walking again. Actually you can see Seceda from Pic, but I just had to climb it anyways.

I descended 200 meters down to the valley and then had to ascend 300 metres up again. This always drives me crazy, so I hit the path in an incredible pace and in an hour and a half I was already standing at the top of Seceda.

There was absolutely no one there, so I just sat in the grass and enjoyed the setting sun that was shining straight into my face, even though the temperature was around zero.

The time went so fast, so after a while I had to roll back down. This time I took the shortest way to get back to the car.

So guys, that’s all from the Dolomites! Again, I have experienced unbelievable three days, which I will never forget. This time the mountains were exceptional because of the weather, which I had never seen in the mountains before. I mean, blue sky for three days in a row and shining sun from morning till evening. I still prefer three meters of snow, ice and white fog, but there is something about this as well!:)
